How Much You Win If You Match 1, 2, or 3 Numbers on Mega Millions?

3 min read

The most recent Mega Millions draw offers the fourth-highest prize, and tickets only cost $2 to enter.

The chances of winning the jackpot are 302,575,350 to 1, meaning you have a higher chance of getting blackjack than any other kind of reward. But what will you get for the more modest Mega Millions rewards if you decide to play?

If You Match 1, 2, or 3 Numbers, Here’s What You Will Win

If just one number and one color match, you won’t win anything and may not win anything, depending on which color you match.

You cannot win if you match one white number. You would have won $2 if you had drawn one yellow ball, which is the final number. You might purchase a further $2 Mega Millions ticket with that cash.

If You Match 2 Numbers, Here’s What You Will Win

The Mega Millions regulations, which you can read here, state that if a yellow ball and a white ball are matched during the drawing, you will earn $4. With that much money, you may purchase two more tickets for the next jackpot for $2 each.

However, you will lose everything if you only match two white balls and miss the yellow ball. When two white balls are matched, many individuals are delighted before realizing they will not be winning anything in this method.

If You Match 3 Numbers, Here’s What You Will Win

According to the Mega Millions regulations, you can read here you win $10 if you match 2 white balls and 1 yellow ball. Additionally, you may win $10 if you match 3 white balls. There are only a few rules where matching yellow or white doesn’t affect how much money you win. Although it’s not much, what it does amounts to more than covers the cost of your ticket. You might also use your gains to purchase further tickets and enter the next lottery.

How Megapliers Operate

If you purchased a ticket with the Megaplier option (in the places where this is an option), the non-jackpot rewards would rise based on the Megaplier drawing by up to five times. Each ticket for the Megaplier option costs an extra $1.

15 Megaplier balls—five with 2X, six with 3X, three with 4X, and one with 5X—are included in the drawing. If you get the Megaplier, any of the rewards mentioned earlier will be increased. For instance, you would typically receive $2 for matching one yellow ball. However, if you have a Megaplier of 2, your one yellow ball match is now worth $4, and if you have a Megaplier of 5, it is worth $10.

And yes, you may match up to five white balls with the Megaplier still in effect. Therefore, if you match five white balls for $1 million and have a Megaplier of 5, you will win $5 million.

Additional Strategies for Winning

You must match all five white balls and the yellow Mega ball to take home the jackpot. You can win $1 million (or more if you’re utilizing a Mega plier option) if you match all five white numbers exclusively. You can win $10,000 if you get 4 white and 4 yellow in a row. $500 is yours if you match 4 pieces of white solely. You can win $200 if you get 3 white and 1 yellow.

The chances of winning Mega Millions are lower than those of winning Powerball, which are 1 in 292.2 million: 1 in 302.6 million. In October 2017, Mega Millions modified its regulations, lowering the likelihood of winning the large prize (they used to be 1 in 258.9 million.) Mega Millions raised the price of a ticket from $1 to $2 on October 28, 2017. The play structure was also altered. Players now choose five numbers out of 70 and one out of 25, as opposed to five out of 75 and one out of 15.
